Summary

Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply.

Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship.

If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you:

  • have an EHC plan
  • are in care or have been in care
  • are in prison or have been in prison

As an Assembly Technician, you'll assemble components, interpret schematics, use hand and power tools, and inspect products to ensure quality and reliability. You'll work with engineers and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and improve processes, with opportunities for learning and career growth.

Wage

£16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Use hand and power tools to assemble products and components
  • Inspect components and assemblies for quality assurance
  • Perform routine maintenance on assembly equipment
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines
  • Document and report any discrepancies or issues in the assembly process
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment
  • Test finished products for functionality and performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues
  • Maintain organisation and cleanliness of the assembly workspace
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
