Summary

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Transactions Officer to join our Group Business Services (GBS) team. This is an exciting opportunity to learn how finance supports a large and diverse organisation whilst gaining valuable experience in a professional office environment. No previous finance experience is required.

Wage

£15,080 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

No two days are the same.

Working alongside experienced finance professionals, you'll learn how to:

  • Process supplier invoices using our finance systems
  • Support the raising and processing of customer invoices
  • Help maintain accurate financial records
  • Learn how payments are processed and administered
  • Assist with reconciling financial information and investigating discrepancies
  • Support colleagues with purchase orders and other finance activities
  • Respond to queries from colleagues, suppliers and customers
  • Learn how to use specialist finance and housing systems
  • Support the administration of insurance claims and related records
  • Build confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Attend apprenticeship training sessions and complete coursework
  • Participate in networking, development and learning opportunities across the Calico Group
  • Contribute to apprentice projects, Youth Voice activities and initiatives that help improve services

As your skills and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing responsibility and develop a strong foundation for a career in finance, accounting or business services.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

The successful applicant will attend day release at Burnley College.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
