Summary

Spring Cottage Primary School is looking for a Teaching Assistant Apprentice! This rewarding role offers the chance to support teachers in the classroom and help pupils reach their full potential. Wage

£12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support pupils in the classroom to help them achieve their learning goals
  • Promote the welfare, safeguarding, and wellbeing of all children
  • Assist with pupils’ personal care where required
  • Help prepare classrooms, learning resources, and displays
  • Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence, and participation in learning
  • Support reading, literacy, numeracy, and classroom activities
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model
  • Help manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Assist with record-keeping and general classroom administration
  • Support pupils during break times, clubs, and extracurricular activities
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant consisting of:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship in Teaching Assistant
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if applicable)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths (if applicable)

You will attend a half-day training session with HBTC, where you will develop teaching assistant knowledge and skills, and work towards any required Functional Skills qualifications (where needed). Additional off-the-job training and an End Point Assessment will also form part of the Apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
