Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Hardwick Primary School is a thriving school at the heart of a supportive community, where children feel happy, confident and valued. They are looking for enthusiastic and committed teaching assistants who have the knowledge, skills and drive required to make a difference to the lives of children in our community, including within Early Years.
As their Apprentice Teaching Assistant you will:
- Work as part of a professional team
- Work with Children who may have Special Educational Needs
- Work on a one-to-one basis with children
- Prepare classroom's for lessons
- Attend staff training sessions
- Attend inset days

The school is term time only. An apprenticeship is a 52 week programme therefore you must be prepared to undertake off the job training during the half term breaks.

What you'll learn

- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.
You will be working towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship standard, which includes:
- Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
- Teaching Assistant L3 Apprenticeship Standard
- Functional skills in maths and English if required
This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
- Mathematics (grade 4)
- English Language (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
