Summary

St Edmund’ s School Canterbury is seeking to employ a School or college leaver with the interest in building a career in finance and achieving AAT status. The role of Finance Assistant will support the Accounts function and play a role in managing the school’ s finances, and contributing to the smooth running of the department.

Wage

£21,157.50 a year

The wage is dependant on age and previous experience. 

Wage rises to National Minimum Wage after 12 months if over 19 years old.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Accurate and timely data entry of supplier invoices 
  • Complete Monthly Reconciliations of supplier statements 
  • Ensuring supplier invoices are settled in accordance with due dates via
  • BACS payment runs, international transfers and bank transfers where
    applicable
  • Processing purchase orders and training new budget holders to raise
    purchase orders 
  • Ensuring the school is utilising the most cost effective suppliers and
    identify and implement cost saving solutions 
  • Produce termly fee invoices and issue them to families 
  • Processing of bank receipts and reconciliation of bank accounts 
  • Monitor and pursue unpaid school fees directly with families in an
    appropriate and timely manner 
  • Undertake and achieve Level 2 AAT (starting point of Level 3 would be
    considered dependent on previous experience).
  • Specifically, duties and processes include: 
  • Entering invoice data onto accounts purchase ledger software 
  • Manage receipt of goods onsite matching delivery notes to goods
    received and original orders 
  • Liaise with stakeholders across the school to process orders and seek
    approval of invoices 
    Reconciliations of pupils attending the school and raising termly invoices
  • Processing charges onto termly fee invoices 
  • Ensuring the correct level of remission are applied to fee termly invoices
    where applicable

What you'll learn

  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade A*-C (4-9))
