Start your accountancy career with a friendly, growing practice. As an Apprentice Accountant, you will earn while you learn, gaining experience in bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, accounts preparation and client communication. Monday to Friday, during normal office hours. The apprentice will work in the office as part of the accountancy team and will also complete approximately 6 hours of online apprenticeship training each week.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an Apprentice Accountant, you will support the team with a range of day-to-day accounting and finance tasks, including:

  • Entering financial information accurately into accounting software
  • Assisting with bookkeeping for clients
  • Supporting the preparation of VAT returns
  • Helping with payroll processing
  • Assisting with accounts preparation
  • Checking and processing invoices, receipts and expenses
  • Speaking with clients by phone and email in a professional manner
  • Using accounting software such as Xero and Sage
  • Keeping client records organised and up to date
  • Learning how an accountancy practice supports different businesses
  • Working with experienced accountants to develop your knowledge and confidence

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

  • Training will be delivered online for approximately 6 hours per week. The apprentice will complete their training alongside their normal workplace duties, with support from their employer and training provider
  • Training will include structured learning, practical accounting knowledge, apprenticeship development activities and preparation for their AAT qualification

More training information

  • Training will be delivered online by Premier Training and will be structured around regular online learning, tutor support, progress reviews and workplace development activities
  • The apprentice will complete their training alongside their normal workplace duties, with ongoing support from both the employer and training provider

Requirements

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English (grade Grade 4/C or above preferred)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths (grade Grade 4/C or above preferred)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
