Summary

Pele Trust is looking for a Teaching Assistant to work at Heddon on the Wall St Andrews CE Primary School.  Working with children, the role is challenging and varied and you will support the teacher in the classroom, working with groups or individuals, helping pupils to stay on task in order to make progress.

Wage

£14,560 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

We offer the national minimum wage for apprentices which will be pro-rata dependent on the number of hours worked e.g. 35 hours per week term time only equates to 0.81FTE.

Working hours may be scheduled between Monday - Friday, 08:00 and 18:00. Term time only. Shifts to be confirmed. Hours are 35 per week during term time. Actual pay is pro-rata to reflect this.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Apprentices will be required to work alongside the teacher (in the following ways: 

  • Attend to the needs of pupils which may include hygiene and welfare needs
  • Support children in their access of learning, helping them to understand instructions and stay on task
  • Establish good relationships with pupils and act as a role model
  • Prepare/clear the classroom
  • Assist with class displays
  • Assist with pupil behaviour during lessons, break and at out of school clubs
  • Provide admin support

  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

Level 3 Teaching Assistant OR Level 3 Early Years Educator 

  • An experienced mentor will be assigned to provide day to day support and the Teaching Assistant qualification will be delivered by Northumberland Skills
  • “Off the job” training which will usually be undertaken in the workplace

The school is willing to consider applications from candidates interested in either a Level 3 Teaching Assistant OR Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4 and above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
