Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Apprentice Teaching Assistant to join Ridgeway Primary Academy. This is an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining a nationally recognised Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant qualification.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Support teachers with planning, delivering and evaluating learning activities
- Assist with whole-class teaching and learning activities
- Work with individual pupils and small groups
- Support pupils' literacy and numeracy development
- Promote pupils' confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing
- Prepare learning resources and classroom displays
- Support pupils with additional needs and SEND requirements
- Help maintain a safe, secure and inclusive learning environment
- Record pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Support positive behaviour and pupil engagement
- Assist with educational visits and school activities
- Support wrap-around care provision when required
- Undertake lunchtime supervision duties
- Communicate professionally with staff, parents and carers where appropriate

- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).

Training schedule
Training will be delivered through Leicestershire County Council's Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship programme. The apprentice will receive off-the-job training alongside practical workplace learning at Ridgeway Primary Academy. Course enrolment is scheduled for September 2026.
More training information
The apprentice will undertake either:
Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship (approximately 18 months),
or
Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship (approximately 24 months).
The appropriate level will be determined during the recruitment and onboarding process based on previous experience and learning.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade A* to C or 9 - 4)
- Mathematics (grade Grade 9 - 4 (or equivalent))
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
