Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice for a fantastic opportunity of working alongside experienced technicians. You will learn everything from fitting a light bulb to changing an engine. You will start with easy jobs and progress to more to complex tasks.

Wage

£17,680 to £28,089.10, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Routine servicing and inspection procedures
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment
  • Contribute to problem solving discussions and enjoy finding solutions to your own and other people’s problems
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic            sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.

  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage
  • Present clear written (typed) communication of work carried out on job card that can be given to front of house and presented to the customer as evidence of work

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
  • Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
  • Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Training schedule

Monday - Friday, 8.00am to 5.30 m. 

One candidate at our Farncombe Service Station and another candidate at our Southern Autos site.

More training information

1 day a week at Brooklands Technical College and the other days at work with us.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Math (grade 4)

Working with chemicals. Some jobs might require heavy lifting, working in loud environments, and talking to customers occasionally.

About this employer

Guards Automotive is a locally owned company with three branches in and around Godalming, we have two customer facing sites and one dedicated workshop for larger jobs. We have been under the same management since 2011 and take pride in our relationship with the local community. We have a very friendly team both in the workshops and front of house. We carry out a range of repairs as well as servicing and MOTs. on a huge variety of cars from Teslas to classic cars.
