Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Your training and responsibilities as an Machine Shop Apprentice, will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Set and operate manual lathes, milling and drilling machines as required
- Work towards programming, setting and operation of CNC machinery
- Accurately follow job cards and update accordingly
- Understand and read engineering drawings/symbols
- Operate overhead crane as required (once trained);
- Operate forklift truck as required (once trained);
- Work to quality standards required for the components;
- Cut materials from stock bar maintaining material identity at all times;
- Undertake final inspections of finished components;
- Maintaining a clean, organised and productive work area for colleagues and yourself;
- When trained, ensure job timings are met/exceeded

Due to the employer's insurance, candidates need to be 18 or over.
