Summary

The Library Service are looking to recruit an Apprentice Library Assistant who is passionate about this service, whilst also being committed and motivated to complete the programme. The main base of this role would be located in Formby Library, and also supporting other libraries across the borough.

Wage

£14,976 to £23,793.12, depending on your age

National Minimum Wage

Salary age dependent, as below:

Age 16-17, £ 8.00 per hour (£15,017 per annum)

Age 18-20, £ 10.85 per hour (£20,367 per annum)

Age 21+, £ 12.71 per hour (£23,858 per annum)

Monday to Friday, 9.00am- 5.00pm (7.20 hours per day). Every other Saturday morning.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Maintain a high-quality, efficient, courteous and helpful standard of library service for library users
  • Undertake all operations necessary for the continued effectiveness and safe delivery of the library service
  • Undertake admin and daily/weekly financial routines, and maintain all records to comply with data protection and designated requirements
  • Support stock promotion and procedures within the library service
  • Contribute to and participate in appropriate library service initiatives in co-operation with library staff

Course contents

  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
  • Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
  • Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.
  • Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload/activity and work to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate patience and calmness.
  • Show you understand the customer’s point of view.
  • Use appropriate sign-posting or resolution to meet your customers needs and manage expectations.
  • Maintain informative communication during service recovery.

  • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required

GCSE in:

  • English (grade D/E and above (3-2 and above))
  • Maths (grade D/E and above (3-2 and above))
