Summary

We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic teaching assistant apprentice to join our team, learning all aspects of working in a school environment whilst studying towards your Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification. 

Wage

£12,636.36 a year

You are paid for term time hours only (26.5 hrs per week), the salary is averaged out across the year. Annual salary pro-rata (26.5 term time only) : £10,495  (£9.17 per hour)

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will be based in a Key Stage Two class, with the opportunity given to experience other year groups. Your primary role will be to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning, both by supporting the whole class, working with groups or individually, ensuring pupils are able to progress, and by helping the teacher to create a safe and stimulating class environment. We are looking for an apprentice who will be a good role model with a positive outlook on life, supporting the children to develop as well-rounded individuals with positive self-esteem and growth mind sets.

  • Teach and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to plan activities for pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupil’s achievement, progress, problems etc
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
  • Support the use of IT in learning activities and develop pupils' competence and independence in its use
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils outside of lesson times
  • For short periods of time, where necessary, fill in for the class teacher, e.g. start and end of days, where the teacher may be held up

Teaching Assistant Standard Level 3. Training is delivered in the workplace.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

About this employer

Grangefield School is a two-form entry primary school, from September there will be approximately 421 children on roll. Grangefield School is situated in the village of Bishops Cleeve, close to Cheltenham, children come from Bishops Cleeve and a few of the surrounding villages.
