Summary

Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply.

Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship.

If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you:

  • have an EHC plan
  • are in care or have been in care
  • are in prison or have been in prison

Wage

£25,000 a year

Hourly paid.

Weekend enhancements for working Saturday (+50p) and Sunday (+£1)

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support individuals with personal care, such as washing, dressing, and grooming
  • Assist with meals, including preparation, feeding, and hydration
  • Provide companionship and take part in activities
  • Help individuals move safely and use mobility aids
  • Follow care plans under supervision
  • Monitor and report changes in health or wellbeing
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment
  • Learn on the job while working towards a care qualification

Training schedule

  • Training will be provided through a recognised training provider
  • Most training will take place in the workplace, supported by experienced staff
  • Off-the-job training may be delivered online 
  • The apprentice will receive regular reviews and support to track progress
  • Opportunity to complete a Level 2 qualification in Adult Care
