Summary

Ecotech Engineers are excited to share that we are looking for a Degree Apprentice to join our team and begin a career in residential structural engineering. This role combines practical experience with a fully funded university degree, giving you the chance to work on real housing projects while developing strong technical skills.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As an Engineering Apprentice at Ecotech Engineers, you will be involved in diverse projects and will help to deliver innovative design solutions across a broad range of clients, with our senior engineers supporting you along the way.

You’ll be involved with our engineers in:

  • Foundation design and structural assessments
  • Producing foundation schedules, zoning plans and CAD mark-ups
  • Supporting Senior CAD Technician with drafting duties
  • Reviewing site investigation information and technical data
  • Attending site visits with senior staff
  • Problem solving and designing simple structural engineering tasks
  • Supporting senior engineering team to prepare design outputs for architects, developers and housebuilders

The post will offer the successful applicant an interesting, challenging and varied workload in a fast-paced environment, as well as allowing them to develop personally and professionally, as an engineer.

Your responsibilities will grow as your knowledge develops. We will also guide you through any elements of the course that aren’t typically part of our day-to-day work.

What you'll learn

  • Apply engineering principles to solve engineering problems: scientific, theoretical and technical principles.
  • Apply civil engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and review and evaluate the results, including measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, constructing, maintaining or operating civil engineering components and systems; consider how continuous improvement can contribute to improved performance.
  • Employ mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods, and apply an integrated or systems-based approach.
  • Identify, interpret and compare information to select materials, components or parts used in civil engineering.
  • Research, collect, select and evaluate technical literature and other sources of data and information to address, analyse and evaluate civil engineering problems.
  • Produce civil engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, policies, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation.
  • Select and apply computational and analytical techniques to model civil engineering problems, recognising the limitations of the techniques employed.

  • Manage and comply with statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures and regulation, and contribute to improvements in health, safety and welfare, within their own area of responsibility.
  • Complete risk assessments to identify, evaluate, manage and mitigate risks.
  • Apply principles of sustainable development and evaluate their effectiveness on the whole project lifecycle of civil engineering solutions.
  • Manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

Training schedule

  • You’ll be enrolled onto a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship which starts in September 2026, working towards a BEng (Hons), with one day per week spent at Derby University for your off-the-job learning
  • We will support your professional development with IStructE or ICE throughout your training

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5+ Subjects, including Maths & English (grade A*-C)

Qualifications of at least 96 UCAS points or above in:

Mathematics plus one further STEM-based subject (grade 96 UCAS points)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

About this employer

Ecotech Engineers Ltd is a structural engineering consultancy established in 2020 by Laura Holland. We work predominantly within the residential sector, supporting a range of national housebuilders. We are experts in the design of all construction materials above and below ground and have specialist knowledge in undertaking foundation appraisals for challenging sites, including those affected by peat, soft clays and historic mining.

  • The degree will set the candidate into the engineering profession with the aim to forward them into a Masters in Structural Engineering and then support to become a chartered structural engineer
