Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The role will develop the apprentice’s technical, commercial and professional capability through structured learning and on-the-job experience, providing a strong foundation for progression to a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Quantity Surveying, Buying & Estimating Team in the commercial management of construction projects from pre-contract through to final account
  • Assist with measurement, valuation and financial control of works packages
  • Support the preparation of cost plans, budgets and forecasts
  • Assist with procurement activities, including subcontractor tender enquiries and analysis
  • Support the administration of construction contracts, including variations and change control
  • Assist with monitoring project costs, cash flow and value against budget
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation in line with company procedures
  • Support the preparation of financial reports and internal cost monitoring information
  • Work collaboratively with site teams, design teams and supply chain partners
  • Engage fully with the Level 4 apprenticeship, completing all required off-the-job learning, coursework, portfolio evidence and End Point Assessment
  • Apply learning from the apprenticeship directly into the workplace, demonstrating continuous professional development

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Training schedule

As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled on a nationally recognised Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician apprenticeship via our training partner, Learning Skills Partnership.

Your apprenticeship typically takes 24 months to complete and is fully supported through a combination of regular online lessons, e-learning materials, and access to their team of experts for 1-2-1 advice and support.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)

A Level in:

Any (grade Level 3)
