What you'll do at work
We are looking for a L4 Quantity Surveyor apprentice to work with a leading main Contractor on a large scale redevelopment site in central Luton.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to train within the commercial side of construction managing budgets, costs, invoices, negotiating with sub-contractors and dealing with contracts.
The Level 4 qualification will include elements of health, safety and welfare, sustainability, construction technology, contracts, procurement, cost control and financial reporting so good maths ability and natural leadership qualities are essential.
A typical day may include:
- Assisting with re-measurements on site for labour-only and sub-contract payments
- Attending Sub-contractor pre-appointment meetings
- Sub-contractor management including the checking and processing of labour-only and sub-contract payments
- Assisting in the preparation of interim valuations
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly financial reports
- Preparation and issuing of sub-contract documentation to sub-contractors
- Maintaining live costs of selected works
- Liaising with Engineers for records of labour, plant & materials
- Preparing take-offs for potential schemes & for the Estimating Department

What you'll learn

- Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
- Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
- Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
- Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
- Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
- Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
- Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
- Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.
Training schedule
As well as onsite experience the apprentice will receive regular online learning sessions from a recognised Training Provider

GCSE in:

- Maths (grade 4/C)
- Science (grade 4/C)
CSCS in:

Other requirements
- Due to planning agreements in place, only applicants living in Luton can be considered for the role with priority given to those living in LU1, LU2, LU3 and LU4 postcodes
- The apprentice will need to be able to travel to site independently every day
- Before starting on site, the apprentice will need to successfully achieve a CSCS qualification - assisitance will be provided with this
- As the role involves working on site, you will need to be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers

Training & Apprenticeships in Construction Ltd (TrAC) is a DfE approved Flexi Job Apprenticeship Agency who will employ you for the duration of the apprenticeship and pay your salary. You should be aware that you will be placed with a host employer but you will not be employed by them.
