Summary

During this fantastic programme, we'll help you develop your practical and behavioural skills and support you in gaining the technical and professional knowledge required for you to succeed. The role will be site-based working alongside experienced engineers to provide maintenance, fitting and assembly services to a range of customers.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Work on-site alongside our experienced engineers, gaining real-world exposure to live projects and day-to-day operations, building your confidence and technical knowledge from the ground up
  • Develop hands-on experience with precision engineering processes, learning how to operate machinery used to shape, cut and finish components to exact specifications, giving you a strong technical foundation
  • Get involved in the construction and assembly of mechanical components, learning how individual parts come together to form finished structures and systems
  • Gain exposure to a range of welding techniques, learning how to join materials safely, accurately and to a high standard - a highly valued skill that will serve you well throughout your career

  • Identify and organise resources to complete tasks. For example, consumables.
  • Respond and adapt to work demands. For example, adapt working methods to reflect changes in working environment, re-prioritise workloads to react to breakdowns and fault scenarios.
  • Identify equipment to work on. Check plant configuration is as defined.
  • Prepare the work area for maintenance tasks.
  • Identify environmental and health and safety hazards and risks and apply control measures.
  • Apply health, safety, and environmental procedures in compliance with regulations, standards, and guidance. For example, signage and barriers, working at height, confined spaces, and COSHH.
  • Follow security procedures. For example, site access, document classification, and securing assets.
  • Follow emergency incident and response procedures.

  • Segregate items for reuse, recycling, and waste.

Training schedule

Engineering Maintenance Technician - Single Discipline Level 3.

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment and age, you may be required to complete English and maths Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
