Summary

Working alongside an experienced plumber, you will be assisting with remedial plumbing work as well as commercial plumbing work.

Wage

£14,560 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with water hygiene, Legionella compliance, and general plumbing works across commercial and domestic sites
  • Support engineers with TMV servicing, inspections, remedial works, and completion of site paperwork/logbooks
  • Learn safe working practices, customer service skills, and how to work professionally within care homes, assisted living sites, and commercial environments
  • Carry out site tidying, maintain a clean working environment, and keep the company van and tools organised and in good condition

  • Carry out and apply the common processes and techniques used in the installation and test of rainwater systems.
  • Plan tasks within plumbing and domestic heating systems industry.
  • Identify and document hazards for the plumbing and domestic heating systems work. Apply control measures.
  • Carry out commission and handover procedures and techniques on plumbing and domestic heating systems (cold water, hot water, central heating, sanitary appliances, and rainwater).
  • Install, test, and commission, electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems.
  • Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on the non-electrical components of plumbing and domestic heating systems.
  • Perform routine service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification procedures and techniques on electrical and electrical control systems applicable to plumbing and domestic heating systems including industry safe isolation procedures.

Training schedule

At East Sussex College you will be completing the Level 3 Plumbing Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship will include Knowledge, Skills, Behaviour, Diploma (if included), Functional Skills (if required).

You will be required to attend the Eastbourne campus for your lesson, you will also have an assessor who will support you alongside your apprenticeship, setting you assignments, completing observations and progress reviews every 10 - 12 weeks.

At East Sussex College you will study further topics including Health & Safety, and Equality & Diversity and professional development.

More training information

Practical on-site training alongside experienced engineers in water hygiene, domestic and commercial plumbing, including installations and maintenance. Training will include compliance monitoring, TMV servicing, remedial plumbing works, fault finding, and client communication.

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade C/4 or above (or equivalent))
