Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Day-to-day tasks include

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to teams within the COO function, ensuring tasks are prioritised, tracked and delivered on time. 
  • Follow departmental procedures and controls and ensure these remain up to date. 
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly and annual checklists. 
  • Stay up to date with relevant industry and regulatory developments affecting the department. 
  • Maintain accurate records and filing (e.g., SharePoint folders, trackers and meeting packs) in line with internal standards. 
  • Assist with checking that team controls have been completed correctly. 
  • Input and update database records relating to client data, securities, transfers, trade settlements, ISA subscriptions and client money, corporate actions, and dividend entitlements. 
  • Support the firm’s third-party applications. 
  • Support data reporting and associated processes. 
  • Support and undertake monitoring activities for Investment Support. 
  • Ensure queries are responded to and resolved in a timely manner. 
  • File daily work (electronic and hard copy), in line with record-management requirements. 
  • Assist with project work as required.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service delivery: Capable of performing non- complex tasks to consistently high standards of client service, timeliness, accuracy and attention to detail. For example, ensures the timely preparation and accuracy of computerised cash position, valuation, and client reports; monitors and processes the timely allocation of investment income to client account; Ensures that client instructions relating to increasing or liquidating their investments are communicated and processed promptly. Manages own workload and adheres to agreed systems and processes. Meets required risk, regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Communication: Demonstrates high quality written and verbal communication skills with both clients and colleagues. Builds and maintains good relationships with clients and counterparties. Handles everyday situations and issues that arise within the context of their job role. Ensures transactions arising from corporate actions are correctly communicated and allocated to client accounts.
  • Team working & collaboration: Consistently supports colleagues and contributes towards making improvements and efficiencies. Aware of their role within the team, how their team fits within the business, and the impact of team decisions impacts on internal and external clients.
  • Ownership & Initiative: Takes ownership for delivery in their area of responsibility. Finds ways to progress and resolve non-complex issues, adopting alternative approaches where appropriate. Escalates decisions and issues swiftly when necessary.
  • Personal development: Participates proactively in planning and recording their development activities; responds positively to feedback from colleagues. Keeps up to date with changes in all areas of the role; shows commitment to the job and the industry.

Training schedule

A two-year placement that offers exposure and learning in all areas of the COO Departments via a 24-month planned rotation, learning on the job.

The successful candidate will be provided with a skills coach, mentor and allocated appropriate time to learn and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviour of the apprenticeship.
The role is based at our London office.

Qualifications achieved on successful completion of the programme.

  • Level 3 Investment Operations Technician apprenticeship
  • CISI Investment Operations Certificate

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4)

A Level in:

80 UCAS points predicted (grade 80 points)
