Summary

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic Apprentice Accounts Assistant to join our team. This is a role that offers variety and interest in a rapidly developing office environment. Our small, friendly team are part of a forward-thinking business, embracing technology while still offering a personal service to support our clients.

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Monday - Thursday, 9.00am - 5.15pm (half-hour lunch). Friday, 9.00am - 4.00pm (half-hour lunch).

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Cloud bookkeeping and bank reconciliations using AI and software.
  • Manage, organise and update relevant data using database applications. 
  • Completing and analysing VAT returns for review by Accounts Manager.
  • Completing Self Assessment tax returns for review by Account Manager.
  • Assisting in the preparation of sole trader accounts.
  • Dealing with client queries and assisting clients to provide an excellent client experience, demonstrating key values around integrity and empathy.

Candidate Requirements:

Must have a positive and friendly 'can do' attitude and be able to work independently with appropriate support. Should be proactive, motivated and willing to learn, with a problem-solving attitude. Confident in engaging with clients, face to face and over the phone, to build a rapport and offer solutions and direction.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

  • The Apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in AAT.
  • The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course.
  • This is a Day Release programme, which means you will attend
    Lincoln College, one day per week, term time only. This will fall within your contracted working hours.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English, Maths & ICT (grade A*/9 – C/4)
  • Two Other Subjects (grade A*/9 – C/4)

Desirable qualifications

A Level in:

Two Subjects (grade A*/Distinction - D/Pass)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

This is an office-based role dealing with clients and potential clients face-to-face, good communication skills are necessary. The business is an essential service and remained open during the lockdowns and will continue to do so.
