Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Trainee HR Apprentice to join our growing organisation, proud winners of Employer of the Year from the Manchester Good Employment Charter. In this role, you will provide day-to-day administrative support to the HR Generalist and wider office team, helping to ensure the smooth running of the HR/People function.

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, supporting onboarding and offboarding processes and ensuring employee and manager queries are responded to in a timely and professional manner. This may include preparing contracts and starter documentation, coordinating inductions, carrying out right-to-work checks, supporting leaver processes and updating the HR system.
  • You will support the accurate input and maintenance of data within the HR system (HRIS), helping to ensure records are compliant and organised.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for managers and employees, you will provide practical and confidential HR support across a diverse workforce, escalating matters appropriately where required.
  • You will support compliance with UK employment legislation and internal policies while helping to deliver a high-quality HR service across the full employee lifecycle.
  • As part of your apprenticeship, you will receive structured learning and on the job training, including one day per week day release at college to support your formal qualification. You will be supported by the HR team throughout your studies and development.
  • You will also have the opportunity to contribute to people initiatives that support company culture, employee wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  •  No previous experience is required. We are looking for someone with excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, a willingness to learn and get stuck in, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Training schedule

One day per week day release is included in the contracted 37.5 hours.

Other requirements

  • Basic computer literacy, with confidence using standard office systems and a willingness to learn new HR systems and emerging technologies.
