Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As an apprentice at Thringstone Primary School, you will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help children learn, develop and thrive.
No two days are the same. You will be supporting learning in the classroom, working with small groups, and helping to create a calm, positive environment where children can succeed.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Supporting children’s learning in class and through small group work
- Assisting the teacher in delivering lessons and preparing resources
- Helping to manage behaviour and promote positive learning attitudes
- Supporting children’s social, emotional and communication development
- Observing and contributing to children’s progress
- Assisting with routines such as transitions, playtimes and organisation
As part of the apprenticeship, you will:
- Work towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Receive structured training alongside your role
- Apply your learning directly in a classroom setting

- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release. The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.

Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
