Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Key Responsibilities (with training and support):
- Assisting in the preparing of statutory accounts to draft stage, including corporation tax returns
- Assisting in the preparing of rental accounts to draft stage
- Assisting in the preparing of personal tax returns to draft stage
- Assisting in the preparing of VAT Returns to draft stage
- Assisting with processing purchase and sales invoices on behalf of clients
- Supporting accounts receivable activities
- Learning how to reconcile bank statements and transactions
- Maintaining accurate financial records and filing systems
- Assisting with month end procedures
- Responding to finance queries with guidance from the team
- Using accounting software (Thomson Ruter’s Digita, Xero, Quickbooks, FreeAgent) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) for finance tasks
- Supporting the running of the office Duties will increase in responsibility as skills and confidence develop

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Essential qualifications

- As part of their Apprenticeship, the successful candidate will complete off the job training - dedicated learning that takes place during paid working hours and focuses on developing the skills and knowledge needed for the role. This includes structured activities such as workshops, online learning, shadowing, and practical training, ensuring they gain the full competence required to excel in the position while contributing effectively to the organisation
- This will be at Milton Keynes College. As such, a driving license and car would be of benefit immediately, or in the near future after commencement of the role
