Summary

The role will provide the opportunity for someone who has a genuine interest in accountancy to start their career in accountancy. The role will be varied, and you will be provided 'on-the-job' training to support your AAT apprenticeship studies.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Opportunity:

You have already built the basics. Now it is time to step forward. This role is designed for someone who wants more than processing work. You will deepen your technical skills while starting to understand the commercial side of finance.

At Accounting and Beyond, you will move from simply preparing numbers to beginning to interpret and use them.

Your Role:

You will take greater ownership of day-to-day client work, including:

  • Preparing and reviewing bookkeeping
  • Assisting with VAT returns and compliance tasks
  • Supporting month-end processes
  • Processing larger or more complex payrolls
  • Maintaining and improving client systems 
  • Identifying and correcting errors independently
  • Communicating with clients on routine matters

You will begin to see the full picture, not just individual tasks.

  • Strong technical accuracy across multiple clients
  • Confidence using cloud accounting and integrated apps
  • Understanding of financial data and what it tells you
  • Awareness of cash flow, profitability, and business performance

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Gaining the AAT Level 3 (AQ2022) qualification.

Studying the following modules:

  • FAPS - Preparing Financial Statements
  • MATS - Management Accounting Techniques
  • TPFB - Tax Processes for Businesses
  • BUAW - Business Awareness

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • maths (grade 4)
