Summary

To complete payments and control company expenses by receiving, processing, verifying and reconciling invoices. The job will involve maintaining accounts payable records and dealing with queries both internally and externally in an efficient and timely way.

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

- You will be entitled to 20 days paid holiday per year, plus statutory UK holidays. Our holiday year runs from 1 January until 31 December.  - Pension EE 5% Employer 3%

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Process invoices through our PO system, IPOS, matching to receipted goods
  • Review and reconcile supplier statements, preparing the data for payment runs weekly
  • Prepare and process payments to suppliers, ensuring timely and accurate payments
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all nominal codes and supplier accounts
  • Assist with month-end closing activities, ensuring invoices are posted on time and our booking system, iTour, is accurately reflecting payments made
  • Assist with keeping the bank reconciliation up-to-date by ensuring all payment journals are correct and posted on time
  • Reconciliation and application of supplier refunds, relating to individual passengers’ bookings
  • Preparation of a daily creditors report to understand payments due to suppliers, in the absence of a supplier statement
  • Aiding with Audit, M/E and Y/E queries, sometimes collating information in respect of this

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

On-the-job training will be delivered by the Employer, and apprenticeship delivery will be with New College Swindon.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
