The apprenticeship wage is £8.00 per hour, however the wage may be more, depending on experience. The wage may be negotiable and may increase subject to satisfactory employment and completion of college targets.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Dealing with purchase ledger and sales ledger - entering invoices, matching, coding, etc.
- Assisting initially with the wages and payroll but quickly leading to covering all the wages and payroll function
- General office duties such as filing, scanning, dealing with the post and taking phone calls and general enquiries
- General ad hoc duties in the accounts department
- Creating spreadsheets, generating reports, reconciliations, and general accounting tasks
- Previous credit control experience would be preferred
Apprenticeship Requirements:
As part of your role, you will complete a structured Apprenticeship Programme designed to support your development. You will be expected to:
- Attend all training sessions, inductions, and reviews, demonstrating punctuality and commitment
- Complete coursework and assignments within agreed deadlines
- Build and maintain a portfolio of evidence throughout the programme
- Actively engage with your tutor, assessor, and line manager to maximise learning and development

Course contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule
The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business.
An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry.
Accounts/Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public Sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions. Accounts/Finance Assistants may work inhouse for an organisation or they might work for accountancy firm, bookkeeping practice, Shared Service provider, self-employed or on behalf of several different clients.

We will be delivering the industry recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technician) Certificate in Accounting Level 2 as part of this apprenticeship standard.
This qualification comprises four mandatory units:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping
- Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
- Principles of Costing
- The Business Environment
The duration of the apprenticeship is 12-15 months; to allow confirmation of successful examination results/re-sits as well as completion of the required End Point Assessment.
The two End Point Assessment methods are:
- Assessment method 1 - knowledge test - integrated
- Assessment method 2 - interview: Structured interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary)
- Both assessment methods will be conducted and graded by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation
More training information
The training will be one day per week held at Kirklees College, day to be confirmed. The recommended time to complete is 12 to 15 months to allow for confirmation of successful examination results/re-sits.
