Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Answering inbound calls confidently and helpfully, making sure clients feel supported and directed to the right person
  • Scheduling client meetings and coordinating adviser diaries
  • Welcoming clients to the office and creating a friendly, professional first impression
  • Ensuring reception, meeting rooms and the office environment remain tidy, organised and welcoming
  • Preparing meeting rooms and refreshments for visiting clients
  • Managing incoming calls and emails and directing enquiries to the appropriate team member
  • Receiving and distributing post and deliveries
  • Supporting the smooth running of the office by ordering supplies and monitoring stock levels
  • Providing administrative support to the team including scanning, filing and preparing correspondence

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use software packages and digital tools to deliver financial advice or paraplanning services in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely.
  • Provide services to clients in line with the business proposition, adhering to Consumer Duty and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles.
  • Prepare financial recommendations in accordance with risk, regulatory, and governance requirements.
  • Comply with service and quality assurance standards for the business, for example complaints procedures and productivity.
  • Communicate with clients and colleagues using methods appropriate for the intended audience, including verbal, written, digital, and virtual.
  • Interpret and communicate financial and business information in a way that facilitates understanding for the intended audience, for example finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver advisory tasks and achieve successful customer outcomes.
  • Plan and prioritise work to support positive outcomes for both the customer and the firm.
  • Provide individual advice relevant to clients in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Use feedback to reflect on own practice and identify opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Paraplanner – Analyse clients’ current circumstances and research appropriate solutions to meet their needs, objectives, and attitudes to risk.
  • Paraplanner – Provide financial planning support to colleagues using appropriate market knowledge and available software and research tools.
  • Paraplanner – Conduct technical product and fund analysis.
  • Paraplanner – Create personalised client-facing financial planning reports that are tailored appropriately to the audience and in line with regulatory and firm standards.
  • Paraplanner – Securely maintain client files with evidence of any research and analysis undertaken.
  • Financial Planner – Conduct KYC activities to fact-find relevant information and establish clients’ financial needs and objectives, including identifying when and where clients may be experiencing vulnerabilities.
  • Financial Planner – Establish overall risk profiles for clients through an understanding of the clients’ financial knowledge and experience, attitude to investment risk, capacity for loss, and understanding of their vulnerabilities.

Training schedule

Simply Academy’s Level 4 Paraplanner & Financial Planner Apprenticeship Programme is designed to help employees become skilled financial planners and paraplanners. This comprehensive programme provides apprentices with a deep understanding of financial planning, investment strategies, and regulatory frameworks, preparing them for a successful career in financial services. With expert-led training and practical, on-the-job experience, apprentices apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support clients and drive the success of the business.

CII DipPFS - Awarded by The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)

 R01 Completion will provide a solid foundation for the learner and can lead on to progression to study in other areas

R02 Builds knowledge in investment products and helps deepen understanding of how to apply the investment advice process in practice

R03 Builds knowledge of the UK tax system and develops ability to assess how taxation applies to individuals and trusts within the context of providing investment advice

R04 Expands knowledge of pension arrangements and deepens the understanding of key issues in retirement planning

To help prepare the apprentice for the professional qualification, Apprentices are provided with Simply Academy’s qualification resource package, alongside a structured study plan supported by a series of live revision sessions with our qualified tutors.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 subjects including maths and english (grade 4 or above)

A Level in:

minimum 2 subjects (grade D/above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

After this apprenticeship

Over time, the role may develop into more technical responsibilities within the Client Services team, supporting advisers with elements of the financial planning process and building industry knowledge.
