Summary

This develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to prepare and install fitted interiors safely, professionally and to specification. This includes learning how to interpret plans, carry out pre-installation checks, prepare locations, assemble and fit products, complete documentation and  support customer handovers.

£18,720 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with the assembly and installation of commercial furniture and fitted interior products to client specifications and design plans
  • Travel to client sites with the team and help transport tools, equipment and materials safely
  • Support pre-installation checks, site preparation and installation set-up
  • Learn how to read drawings, specifications and manufacturer instructions accurately
  • Use tools, PPE and equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures
  • Work closely with colleagues, site contacts, project managers and other trades where required
  • Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping and customer service at all times
  • Complete job records and installation documentation as required
  • Follow company health and safety procedures and all training provided
  • Take an active approach to learning, development and continuous improvement

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Carry out location, product, material and dimensional checks prior to installation.
  • Inspect the fabric of the building for suitability of weight of installation.
  • Interpret information from drawings, specifications and functional designs.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Use and store hand and power tools.
  • Select and use personal protective equipment.
  • Remove and dispose of pre-existing products.
  • Assemble and install fitted furniture components in sequence.
  • Install boxing, boarding and frameworks, adjusting to ensure best possible fit.
  • Install and dry-fit ancillary products, for example, hinges, handles, appliances, media equipment or bathroom suite fixtures.
  • Identify and report faults, snags and issues.
  • Carry out rectification work following a root cause analysis, within limits of competence.
  • Maintain a safe working area and return to a safe condition.
  • Carry out a customer handover, including providing product guidance.
  • Communicate with others verbally, for example internal and external customers, colleagues and managers.
  • Works collaboratively with clients or stakeholders to solve problems
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.

Training schedule

The apprentice will complete their practical training on site at client locations, working alongside experienced team members on live commercial installation projects. Their progress will be supported and evidenced through a workbook, which will be completed throughout the programme to demonstrate learning and development.

There is no day release attached to this apprenticeship. The formal apprenticeship training will be delivered fully remotely by Macclesfield College, alongside workplace-based learning provided by AMS Nationwide Services.

After this apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is designed to support progression into a permanent role as a qualified Fitted Interiors Installer. After completing the programme, the apprentice would be able to move into increasingly independent installation work across commercial interior projects, with opportunities to specialise in fitted furniture and workplace interiors. Over time, and depending on performance and business needs, progression could include Senior Installer, Lead Installer, Site Supervisor, Project Support, or other technical interiors roles. This progression reflects the scope of the standard, which includes surveying, interpreting plans, preparing locations, installation, handover and stakeholder support.
