AN Computing Ltd is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Software Tester to join our quality assurance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products through rigorous testing and validation processes.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Collaborate with the project team to understand project requirements and objectives. Develop detailed test plans that outline the scope, test objectives, and test strategies.
- Create and maintain comprehensive test cases, test scripts, and test data that cover various aspects of the software, including functionality, performance, security, and usability.
- Execute test cases and record test results systematically. Identify defects, track them in a defect tracking system, and work with developers to ensure timely resolution.
- Conduct regression testing to verify that software changes and updates do not introduce new defects or negatively impact existing functionality.
- Contribute to test automation efforts by creating and maintaining automated test scripts using relevant tools and frameworks.
- Maintain detailed documentation of test plans, test cases, and test results. Ensure that testing processes are well-documented and easily accessible to team members.
- Actively participate in code reviews and provide feedback to developers regarding code quality and potential issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and business analysts, end users, to ensure a shared understanding of project requirements and quality goals.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging testing methodologies. Suggest process improvements to enhance the overall quality assurance process.
- Generate and distribute test reports to project stakeholders, including management, to communicate the status of testing efforts and any identified issues.
· Attention to Detail: As a software tester, it's crucial to spot even the smallest errors or inconsistencies in code and user interfaces. This quality ensures that the software is thoroughly tested and any issues are identified and resolved before release.
· Analytical Thinking: Being able to analyze complex systems and understand how different components interact is essential. This helps in creating effective test cases and understanding the root cause of any issues that arise.
· Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication is key when reporting bugs and collaborating with developers and other team members. Good communication skills help ensure that issues are understood and addressed efficiently.

What you'll learn

- apply static test techniques
- apply Black Box test techniques such as Equivalence Partitioning, Boundary Value Analysis, Decision Table Testing and State Transition Testing
- analyse test objectives and requirements/test basis to define test scope and coverage criteria
- use tools to automate, manage or support any test activity
- Apply a regression strategy including selection of tests, maintenance of regression suites and identifying tests suitable for automation
- use defect tracking tools
- adapt and apply testing activities according to industry standard development methodologies (sequential and iterative)
- apply the range of different software test types within the broad categories of Functional, Non-Functional (Security, Performance & Usability), and White Box/Structural Testing
- apply and support testing at different Test Levels appropriate to the Software Development Lifecycle (such as Unit Testing, Component Integration Testing, System Testing, System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing), taking into account the fundamentals of testing
- conform to specific industry standards where appropriate (such as GDPR, health informatics, safety critical, etc.) related to software testing
- maintain up to date knowledge of technological developments in the field of Software Testing
- record and interpret test progress and results, communicating test status to the relevant stakeholders

- Collect and interpret the results of testing and make appropriate recommendations.

Other requirements
As an employee of this firm you will be automatically enrolled into the NEST Auto Enrolment Pension Scheme on the day your employment commences (if you meet the qualifying criteria). However, if you choose to opt out of the Scheme then you will need to write to us informing of your wish not to be included in the Auto Enrolment Scheme as soon as possible after your employment commences.
You are entitled to 28 days holiday per year. This includes public holidays. You may occasionally be required to work public holidays. Your holiday year begins on 1st April. Unused holiday entitlement may be carried forward to the next holiday year. The amount of holiday that can be carried forward into the next holiday year is limited to 5 days and must be approved by a Company Director.
