Summary

To work under the instruction/guidance of qualified teacher, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.

£13,520 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Actual salary will be £11609.00 (based on the £8 an hour rate) working weeks 39, paid weeks 44.65, 32.5 hours per week.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of education healthcare plan outcomes, Support Plans, Individual Education Plans and Personal Care programmes
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals
  • Assist with the planning of learning activities
  • Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/ progress as directed
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, challenges etc.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour in line with established policy
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers
  • Provide clerical/admin support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, administer coursework etc.

  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship (SEND Pathway) Qualification 
  • Expected Duration: 16-months
  • Delivery: All learning will be delivered online alongside full-time placement at the school

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
