What you'll do at work
An exciting new opportunity to join the team in Birmingham City Centre as a Business Development and marketing apprentice.
- To provide a proactive telesales to create leads and gather market / sales data
- Generate appointments for Business Development Manager with decision-makers and influencers within targeted markets for Protocol products: Qualifications, Recruitment Apprenticeships and Pre-apprenticeships
- Create, send and analyse marketing e-campaigns using ZOHO Mail
- Attend networking events
- Employer engagement (Face to Face Meetings)
- Lead generation from available data including E-marketing
- Follow up enquiries and leads to fill sales pipeline
- Maintain regular contact with influencers to identify need and create demand for Protocol products and consultancy
- Proactively chasing specifications to increase conversion rates
- Take an active role in specific sales initiatives & promotional activities and follow up work on the back of these
- Record own activities and diarise follow-ups in CRM
- Talk to potential customers to prepare the way for external sales to make an appointment
- Participate in Sales team meetings
- Attend external customer visits and exhibitions from time to time
- Complete regular feedback to manager
- Work on DFE Apprenticeship contract

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Develop or interpret briefs for external or internal stakeholders and measure delivery in-line with the specification and agreed timelines
- Plan and coordinate a marketing activity using marketing tactics to acquire and retain one or more customer segments using available resources.
- Contribute to the generation of innovative and creative approaches across video, images, and other formats, both online and offline, to support campaign development.
- Use research/survey software to gather audience insight and/or evaluation to support the project.
- Use copywriting techniques to write persuasive text/copy to meet a communications objective ensuring it is in-line with organisational brand guidelines.
- Build and implement multi-channel campaigns across a variety of platforms, either offline or digital media.
- Proofread marketing copy ensuring it is accurate, persuasive and is on brand.
- Use software to design and create marketing assets to meet the technical specification.
- Contribute to the research of external suppliers to support recommendations and procurement of marketing goods and services.
- Organise offline and digital assets ensuring they are co-ordinated and legally compliant.
- Use a content management system to publish text, images, and video/animated content.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets to support marketing activities such as project/budget planning and organisation of marketing assets.
- Use technology and software packages to support day to day activities, e.g., stakeholder communications, development of briefs, data analysis, report writing, presentations and project management.
- Identify and use data and technologies to achieve marketing objectives.
- Monitor and amend campaigns to meet budget requirements including time and monetary costs.
- Review campaigns regularly to ensure effectiveness, to optimise the results.
- Measure and evaluate campaign delivery to identify areas for improvement.

Training schedule
- An apprenticeship includes regular training at Protocol Consultancy Services in Birmingham (B3 2NH) with the training organisation
- English and maths Functional Skills (if applicable)
- Minimum of 6 hours off-the-job training per week at employer premises
- One day per month training at Protocol Consultancy Services in Birmingham City Centre

Protocol Consultancy Services was established as a Training Provider in 1996 with two staff members. In 2026, we now have ten staff members and a team of part-time consultants.
We are an approved Work-Based Training Provider for the DFE. PCS is part of the Protocol Group of Companies and is a trading name of Transworld Publications Services Ltd.
The employer is also the trainign provider for this apprenticeship.
