Summary
As a Software Development Apprentice, you will support the development and maintenance of web applications using technologies such as PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress. Working alongside developers, you will gain hands-on experience in building features, assisting with database and API integration, testing and debugging code.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Develop and maintain web applications using PHP, Java, HTML, CSS
- Build and manage website content using WordPress
- Implement and maintain database connections and API integrations
- Follow coding standards, structured design principles, and best practices
- Conduct unit testing and support debugging and issue resolution
- Create and maintain technical documentation (e.g. use case diagrams, workflows)
- Collaborate with internal teams and contribute in meetings with progress updates
- Produce clean, maintainable code and support continuous improvement of development processes
- Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the Baltic team

What you'll learn

- develop effective user interfaces

- test code and analyse results to correct errors found using unit testing
- conduct a range of test types, such as Integration, System, User Acceptance, Non-Functional, Performance and Security testing.

- apply structured techniques to problem solving, debug code and understand the structure of programmes in order to identify and resolve issues
- create simple software designs to effectively communicate understanding of the program
- create analysis artefacts, such as use cases and/or user stories
- build, manage and deploy code into the relevant environment
- apply an appropriate software development approach according to the relevant paradigm (for example object oriented, event driven or procedural)
- follow software designs and functional or technical specifications
- follow testing frameworks and methodologies
- follow company, team or client approaches to continuous integration, version and source control
- communicate software solutions and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- apply algorithms, logic and data structures
- interpret and implement a given design whist remaining compliant with security and maintainability requirements

Training schedule
- Full training and support will be provided by your workplace mentor and from the Baltic team

- You’ll be based full time with an employer and will quickly become an important part of the team

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Math (grade 4)
