The technical support department within FPS Air Compressors is the pivotal department within the organisation. We assist customers with technical enquiries, remote fault-finding, repairs, and diagnosis on machines. The apprenticeship that we offer will provide an interesting dynamic role where no two days are ever the same.

You will be entitled to 20 days paid annual leave plus bank holidays. You are required to use your annual leave to cover the shutdown between Christmas and New Year (approx 4 days).

What you'll do at work
The technical support department within FPS Air Compressors is the pivotal department within the organisation. We assist customers with technical enquiries, remote fault-finding, repairs, and diagnosis on machines. The apprenticeship that we offer will provide an interesting dynamic role where no two days are ever the same.

The day-to-day tasks within the role include
- Learn the basic principles of compressed air, and how air compressors operate.
- Assist with day-to-day hands-on workshop activity, with electrical & mechanical repairs.
- Assist when able with technical support phone calls, email & administration.
- Assist with updating the technical support library with documents, manuals etc.
- Assist with visits to customer sites to undertake routine services, and repairs

Training schedule
Delivery model:
- Work-based training with your employer.
- Day release during term time (approximately 2 days a week for 1 year).
- Regular meetings with your training coordinator to monitor progress and well-being.
- Apprentices will need to complete a minimum of 300 hours of off-the-job training during their apprenticeship.
Qualifications included:
- Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills).
- Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge).
- Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship.
End Point Assessment:
- Practical assessment.
- Professional discussion.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade A*-C/9-4)
- Maths (grade A*-B/9-5)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
Experience using hand tools, and some kind of mechanical experience would be desirable.
You will need to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Apprenticeship Assessment and Information Session:
Any new person applying for apprenticeship roles where Abingdon and Witney College deliver the training, may be required to attend an Apprenticeship Assessment and Information Session at Witney or Abingdon campus.
This will consist of a series of initial assessments (required prior to any apprenticeship offer), completion of essential paperwork, the opportunity to find out more about the apprenticeship process, the training included, and a forum for your questions.

Qualification checks:

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £8.00 per hour from April 2026. This applies to 16 - 18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over during the first year of their apprenticeship. After this, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on-the-job, plus time spent training.

Our office is situated in a rural-ish location, so candidates will need own transport due to irregular bus service. Our office is located on the 1st floor and there is a lift in the building.

After this apprenticeship
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will have the option to become a full-time employee within the organisation as a Technical Support Engineer and progress to the Level 3.
