Summary

This role is to provide technical support for production and manufacturing engineering disciplines within the business. Assisting the manufacturing engineering team to resolve technical issues and help develop tooling and manufacturing processes. 

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • The main role is to provide first line support and assist the manufacturing engineering team with day-to-day tasks
  • Help to resolve issues with material, tooling or assembly processes
  • Produce and update written documentation, standard operating procedures and business processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and assist with equipment maintenance activities
  • Develop problem solving and technical skills to support the business
  • A focus will be on continuous improvements to delivered quality, increase yields and reduce manufacturing costs

Course contents
  • Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. For example, segregation of resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Comply with engineering standards and regulations. For example, British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation standards (ISO). European Norm (EN).
  • Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. For example, read and interpret text, data, engineering drawings, work instructions, method statements, operation manuals.
  • Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
  • Apply problem solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
  • Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
  • Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
  • Produce job specific technical outputs. For example, engineering drawings, quality control management, computer control programming, business improvement, adverse incident reports, technical investigations, equipment appraisals and specifications.

Training schedule

  • Level 3 in Engineering and manufacturing support technician Ref: ST1395
  • The role will be based at the Bauer Media Outdoor Technic Bolton facility with day release Wigan and Leigh College, Pagefield Campus WN1 2JH as the education provider for 42 weeks starting in September 2026

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 4 or higher)
  • Maths (grade Grade 4 or higher)

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

Science (grade Grade 4 or higher)

Other requirements

  • Activities will involve some manual handling of large assemblies and the use of lifting equipment.
  • Commuting to Bauer Media Outdoor Technic (BMO Technic) manufacturing location should be considered.  The facility is accessible via public transport.
