Summary

We are looking for a Retail Apprentice at the HM Tower of London. As a Retailer Level 2 Apprentice at the Tower of London, you’ll play a vital role in welcoming millions of visitors and helping them take a piece of history home.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As part of our retail team, you’ll learn the core skills set out in the Retailer Level 2 Standard while helping us deliver an exceptional experience for every visitor. You’ll:

  • Offer a warm, friendly welcome and support visitors as they explore our shops.
  • Build your customer‑service skills, learning how to engage confidently and professionally.
  • Develop strong product knowledge so you can share stories, answer questions and help visitors choose meaningful souvenirs.
  • Support the daily running of our shops, from stock and displays to pricing and till work.
  • Maintain high standards of presentation, safety and care for our spaces.
  • Work closely with colleagues, contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture.
     

Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by your manager.

You’ll grow your communication, problem‑solving and teamwork skills, all essential elements of the apprenticeship standard.

Alongside your core training, you’ll have the chance to deepen your skills in specialist areas:

Replenishment

  • Keeping our shops beautifully presented and fully stocked.
  • Using stock systems, scanners and equipment safely and confidently.
  • Supporting visual merchandising across multiple Tower shops.

Jewellery

  • Learning about materials, craftsmanship and ethical sourcing.
  • Sharing the stories behind our jewellery collections.
  • Helping visitors choose special pieces and advising on care.
     

Cashiering

  • Processing transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Handling payments responsibly and following security procedures.
  • Supporting visitors with pricing and product queries.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Communicate with customers to meet their requirements and encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
  • Serve customers in line with brand standards, legislation, business procedures and the values of the business.
  • Provide a retail service that balances the customers’ needs with additional linked products and services.
  • Use face to face or online sales techniques such as product and price comparisons to support or influence the customer in their purchasing decisions.
  • Promote seasonal or local offers through in-store or online promotions.
  • Identify situations that may damage business reputation in line with company policy and escalate as required.
  • Maintain good merchandising to meet the needs of the business whilst ensuring safety.
  • Maintain stock levels and storage conditions such as correct temperature, lighting, ventilation, packaging to meet customer demand and minimise stock loss.
  • Use technology and applications to support sales and service ensuring that maintenance issues are reported.
  • Support team and colleague development through buddying and/or coaching.
  • Comply with regulations and legislation relevant to their role and business.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities which focus on improving sustainability within the business.
  • Handle complaints within remit or escalate as appropriate.
  • Support sales across a range of promotional events throughout the calendar year.
