Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Assisting customers in person, by phone, and via email across both the framing and printmaking departments
- Supporting the preparation, packing, and dispatch of artwork, printmaking materials, and equipment
- Helping with frame assembly, exhibition setup, and general care and organisation of artwork
- Assisting with printmaking studio tasks, including potting inks, preparing materials, and supporting print runs
- Monitoring stock levels and helping to maintain an organised and efficient workspace
- Assisting with updating products and information on the website, packing and preparing equipment, and preparing orders for delivery
- With training, supporting press demonstrations and customer guidance in the studio

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Use a range of questioning skills, including listening and responding in a way that builds rapport, determines customer needs and expectations and achieves positive engagement and delivery.
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills, along with summarising language during face-to-face communications; and/or
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use appropriate communication skills, along with reinforcement techniques (to confirm understanding) during non-facing customer interactions.
- Depending on your job role and work environment: Use an appropriate ‘tone of voice’ in all communications, including written and digital, that reflect the organisation’s brand.
- Provide clear explanations and offer options in order to help customers make choices that are mutually beneficial to both the customer and your organisation.

You may have to attend formal college sessions (if English & maths are required), but not necessary for 19+.
You will learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours related to the apprenticeship standard.
Training will take place within the workplace, supported by the assessor through regular visits and reviews. An online portfolio is also used where tasks are set and progress is monitored.

Other requirements
- The location has limited public transport options, so applicants should consider how they will travel to and from work
- The apprentice will be on their feet for much of the day and moving between different areas of the business
- The role is based in a working studio and workshop environment, which can be cold in the winter months, so warm clothing is essential

Ironbridge Fine Arts is a specialist printmaking studio, gallery, framing workshop, and manufacturing business based in Ironbridge. They design and produce high-quality Gunning etching presses and printmaking equipment, used by artists, studios, and universities worldwide.
Alongside manufacturing, we run a busy working studio and gallery, offering workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, and professional framing services. We work closely with artists and customers to present and preserve artwork to a high standard.
We also supply a wide range of printmaking materials, including inks, rollers, plates, and studio equipment.
The business was established to support and promote printmaking at all levels, combining practical making, teaching, framing, and manufacturing. Our aim is to provide well designed tools, high-quality services, and clear, accessible knowledge to help artists develop their work and present it professionally
