Summary

The AAT Apprentice will support the Accounts Assistant and will involve assisting in the day-to-day financial activities such as data entry, progressing to month end management accounts. Assisting with the weekly payroll. Responsibilities will progress at a rate the apprentice feels confident.

Wage

£15,392 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Monday to Thursday - 8.00am to 4.30pm (30-minsutes unpaid break). Friday - 8.00am to 1.00pm (no break). No weekend working.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Key responsibilities include the assistance of:

Purchase Ledger:

  • Match invoices to delivery notes/purchase orders
  • Input of purchase ledger invoices into Sage 200
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Generate purchase orders when required
  • Assisting in the creation of supplier payment runs
  • Processing payments
  • Dealing with supplier queries
  • Liaise with purchasing manager and stores team

Sales Ledger:

  •  Input sales orders onto Sage 200
  •  Raise sales invoices
  • Match and post receipts onto customer accounts on Sage 200
  • Credit control
  • Resolve customer queries
  • Send customer statements

Weekly Payroll:

  • Dealing with new starters/leavers
  • Daily timesheet checks
  • Weekly payroll process including payment onto bank
  • Resolve queries
  • Process and get holiday requests approved for all employees

General Admin:

  • Answer the telephone
  • Ad hoc duties

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 3 other Subjects (grade 4-9 (A*- C))
  • Maths & English (grade 4-9 (A*- C))
