Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Working alongside experienced planners and project teams, you will gain hands-on experience in project scheduling, programme development and construction sequencing, supporting the delivery of complex building services projects across London.
You will also undertake further professional study at either Level 4 Building Services Engineering or Level 6 Building Services / Construction Cost Management, depending on your current qualifications.
What You Will Do
As a Trainee Planner, you will support project teams with the planning and monitoring of building services works.
Key responsibilities may include:
Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of project programmes and schedules
Supporting the monitoring of project progress against programme milestones
Working with project managers and site teams to understand construction sequencing
Helping produce look-ahead programmes and planning reports
Supporting the identification of programme risks and delays
Assisting in coordinating mechanical, electrical and public health installation programmes
Learning to use planning software such as Asta Powerproject or Primavera
Attending project meetings and gaining exposure to live project delivery
This role provides an excellent foundation for developing a career in construction planning and project management.

- Apply engineering principles, using relevant scientific, theoretical and technical know-how to solve well-defined building services engineering problems.
- Apply building services engineering techniques, procedures and methods, and review the results, when measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, maintaining or operating building services engineering systems.
- Employ a range of advanced mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods to interpret and solve well-defined building services engineering problems.
- Interpret and compare performance information to choose compliant materials, components or parts.
- Select and use technical literature and other sources of information and data to address well-defined building services engineering problems.
- Produce and interpret building services engineering technical drawings, designs, and models, using analytical and computer-based software packages, recognising the limitations of the software used.
