What you'll do at work

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and creative Employee Engagement Apprentice to join our Talent & Engagement team. You’ll help us deliver high‑impact activities that celebrate our people, strengthen our culture and make DHL Express an exceptional place to work, all while completing a recognised Level 3 HR qualification.

What you’ll be doing:

In this varied and hands‑on role, you’ll gain experience across all areas of employee engagement, including:

Engagement & Culture:

  • Support the planning and delivery of recognition events, wellbeing campaigns, DEIB celebrations, themed weeks and more
  • Help maintain our annual engagement calendar and track milestones
  • Bring fresh ideas to help create an inclusive, positive and vibrant workplace culture

Internal Communications:

  • Draft engaging newsletter content, intranet articles, email updates and digital screen visuals
  • Collect stories and successes from across the business to showcase our incredible people

Employee Listening & Insight:

  • Help run surveys and pulse checks
  • Support with analysing results, spotting trends and preparing summaries for leaders

Recognition & Reward:

  • Coordinate  activities for programmes such as Employee of the Quarter/Year
  • Manage nominations, certificates, logistics and celebration moments

Project & Admin Support:

  • Support national engagement projects, from wellbeing weeks to volunteering days
  • Keep our records, trackers and inboxes up to date
  • Work with colleagues across HR, Operations and Support functions

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Training schedule

As part of your Level 3 HR Apprenticeship, you will receive structured, high‑quality training alongside your on‑the‑job experience. Your learning will include:

  • Training location: All apprenticeship training will take place in the workplace or virtually - there is no requirement to travel to a college or external training centre
  • Monthly workshops: You will attend monthly virtual workshops delivered by our apprenticeship training provider, covering core HR knowledge, skills and behaviours
  • 1:1 coaching: You will have regular one‑to‑one sessions with a dedicated apprenticeship coach to support your progress, personalise your learning and prepare you for assessments
  • On‑the‑job learning: You will gain practical, hands‑on experience every day through your role within the Talent & Engagement team, applying your learning directly to real projects
  • Protected learning time: You will receive dedicated study time each month to complete coursework, assignments and self‑directed learning as part of your apprenticeship

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4-9)
  • Maths (grade 4-9)

Desirable qualifications

Degree in:

Business Related (grade Pass)
