Summary

The role requires an enthusiastic individual to be involved in spectrum of landscape architecture, landscape master planning, detailed hard & soft landscape design, construction detailing & specifications. This will suit a motivated individual who would like to work within & experience multi-disciplinary teams. 

Wage

£16,500 a year

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist the team with ongoing project work using relevant software: AutoCAD, KeySCAPES, Adobe suite, Sketchup
  • This can include working on baseline work for landscape visual impact assessments, aiding the team with masterplans for large scale projects, working on plot layouts for housing developments
  • Developing your understanding of plants and planting arrangements for small scale developments through to large scale garden villages
  • Complete basic drawing tasks using AutoCAD in relation to plans for housing layouts
  • Graphic design input into projects

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Undertake site surveys and inspections - Undertake site surveys and inspections and record findings in an appropriate format. Take account of natural processes, habitats and biodiversity and the topographical and physical environment including nearby structures, water courses, services.
  • Prepare basic landscape designs - Assist with the preparation of landscape designs accounting for the physical and social context. Consider the potential to improve health and wellbeing, sensory design and ensure schemes are accessible and inclusive for all. Apply the principles of sustainability.
  • Convey ideas - Contribute to conveying ideas to clients, stakeholders, volunteers and the public typically using reports, photography, visualisation, presentations and graphics software.
  • Use technology - Use technology typically including computer-aided design, Building Information Modelling, Geographic Information Systems and Excel.
  • Contribute to the preparation of drawings and specifications for landscape schemes.
  • Research - Undertake desk and site based landscape research.
  • Legal and regulatory compliance - Comply with relevant landscape, parks, planning, building and environmental related legislation, requirements, policies and procedures. Follow health and safety procedures at work and on site
  • Contract process - Contribute to the implementation or aftercare of landscape projects and comply with or ensure compliance with contract terms
  • Personal effectiveness - Communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Manage work and time. Work independently and as part of a team. Interact with other built environment professionals.

Training schedule

This apprenticeship is in partnership with Capel Manor College, London.

You will be expected to complete a minimum of 6 hours of learning per week, with 1 day allocated for remote learning through the college.

You will also cover a breadth of training during working hours at IDP Landscape over the 2 years.

There will be optional in person learning days at the college during the 2 years as well.

We offer all staff the ability to complete 12 hours of CPD sessions during the year, these are in-house and delivered by external companies (and often include a free lunch!).

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • Art or Graphic Design (grade Grade 4)
  • English (grade Grade 4)
  • Maths (grade Grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

You will get the opportunity to assist members of the team with site visits for projects, attending client events, visiting completed projects around the UK, as well as taking part in team building trips and giving back to the community for our social value.

After this apprenticeship

Your Level 3 qualification can be used to apply for a BA Degree in Landscape Architecture.

Options then include a Masters and Chartership as a Landscape Architect.

There may be opportunity to further your qualifications whilst remaining at IDP Landscape Ltd.
