What you'll do at work
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire and Security Apprentice at a growing company based at Birtley. You will be shadowing an engineer where you will be undertaking tasks that involve installation of Fire Detection Systems, Intruder Alarms, Access Control Systems, Video Entry and CCTV.
This is an excellent opportunity to progress and grow within the company for the right person who is enthusiastic and wants to learn new skills.
The role will be very varied and will include the following duties;
· Working in line with health and safety guidelines.
· Installing fire and security alarm systems such as CCTV, Access Control systems and Intruder Alarms.
· Installing cabling – first fix
· Using a range of hand held tools and cordless drill
· Liaising with customers on site
· Updating paperwork on site
Salary will be reviewed every 6 months.
It would be advantageous for the applicant to have previously studied electrical engineering at level 2.
Driving licence would be beneficial or be keen to learn – if required, you will be collected from home and dropped off on a daily basis.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
- Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
- Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
- Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
- Carries out risk assessments.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
- Plan and install systems cabling.

Training schedule
Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Level 3 apprenticeship alongside internal training and development.
Attend Access Training based on the Team Valley Gateshead on a weekly basis.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
On the rare occasion, may be required to work away from home. On these occasions, the company will provide all accommodation and a meal allowance.
The company also provides a basic hand tool kit, uniform and PPE.
