We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children’s learning and development, who is eager to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised qualification.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • To support the class teacher and the school to facilitate the active participation of a named child who has special educational needs in the academic and social activities of the school.
  • To support the child so that the child is able to fully access the curriculum. To contribute to raising standards of achievement for all pupils.
  • Support for the Child In conjunction with the classroom teacher, adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual children and small groups.
  • Take responsibility for delivering learning activities with the named child and within small groups that include the named child.
  • Establish and maintain supportive relationships with individual pupils, small groups and parents/carers to ensure they understand and can achieve the tasks.
  • Provide learning support to children with significant care needs, or where English is not their first language.
  • Encourage and promote inclusion in the classroom, ensuring the named child alongside others feels involved with tasks and activities.

  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

· Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Teaching Assistant Diploma.
· On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.
· Regular review meetings to track progress and development.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4–9 (A*–C))
  • Maths (grade 4–9 (A*–C))
