Summary

Northgate is seeking a motivated Inclusion Apprentice. This is an exciting time to join our Teaching Assistant team with an additional role supporting some of the time with SEN. You’ll be part of a supportive and ambitious team who are committed to helping every child reach their full potential. 

Wage

£12,268.75 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

To work with primary-aged children:

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
  • Implement SEND Plans under guidance from the SENCo
  • Liaise with class teachers to support children’s learning
  • Liaise with families of children
  • Work 1:1 and with small groups of children
  • Supervise and support pupils, ensuring safety and access to learning
  • Promote inclusion of all children and ensure staff/volunteers follow safeguarding policies
  • Liaise with the wider team and SLT to ensure children’s needs are met
  • Embrace the trust/school vision

Principal Accountabilities:

Support for Pupils:

  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare
  • Supervise and support pupils, ensuring safety and access to learning
  • Use specialist skills, training or experience to support pupils
  • Establish positive relationships and act as a role model, responding appropriately to individual needs
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Provide consistent support while recognising individual needs
  • Encourage independence where appropriate
  • Encourage pupils to interact, work cooperatively and participate in activities
  • Use strategies to recognise and reward achievement

Support for Teachers:

  • Work with the teacher to create an appropriate learning environment
  • Assist with working walls and pupil display work
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons and clear it afterwards
  • Support inclusion by ensuring equal access to learning opportunities
  • Undertake pupil record keeping where required
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and behaviour; respond to conflict in line with policy
  • Liaise sensitively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher
  • Participate in parent feedback sessions/meetings when directed
  • Administer and assess routine tests
  • Provide general administrative support, including preparing/adapting worksheets and resources

Support for the School:

  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the school
  • Appreciate and support the roles of other professionals
  • Attend relevant meetings within contracted hours
  • Participate in training, learning activities and performance development
  • Assist with supervision of pupils outside lesson times
  • Promote equality, fairness, and dignity
  • Recognise health and safety responsibilities and follow all relevant policies and procedures
  • Undertake other ad hoc duties as required

Data Protection & Safeguarding

  • Work in line with Data Protection requirements at all times
  • Understand safeguarding and child protection responsibilities and know how to raise concerns
  • Remain vigilant to ensure all pupils are protected from harm

General Expectations:

  • Undertake any trust‑provided training required to carry out duties
  • Contribute to the protection of children and young people in line with policies/guidelines
  • Promote, monitor and maintain a safe and secure workplace, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation including COSHH
  • Undergo an Enhanced DBS check prior to appointment

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
