Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This role is ideal for someone looking to begin a long-term career in supply chain operations while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

As a Warehouse Operative Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience across all key warehouse functions, including:

  • Receiving, checking and booking in goods
  • Assigning stock locations and organising inventory
  • Stock control and supporting stock takes
  • Selecting, preparing and using packaging materials
  • Picking and packing customer orders
  • Preparing goods for dispatch
  • Using warehouse systems and IT technology
  • Operating and handling equipment safely and efficiently
  • You will learn how warehouse systems and processes operate, understand relevant regulations and legislation, and develop the skills needed to work both independently and as part of a team.

Health and safety best practice is central to this role. You will be trained in the safe use of equipment and machinery, complying with rules and processes, and minimising the environmental impact of work activities.

  • Use tools and equipment to aid in product handling.
  • Use information technology and digital systems. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Locate and use operational information, electronic or paper based, required to fulfil contractual requirements.
  • Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that reduce waste and mitigate environmental impacts.
  • support under instruction scheduled and unscheduled stock taking activities relevant to the organisation and product.
  • Identify and escalate problems beyond own responsibility.
  • Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
  • Follow equity, diversity and inclusion rules.
  • Carry out and record learning and development activities.

Training schedule

  • Supply Chain Warehouse operative Level 2 Standard
  • Work-based training
  • Monthly Tutor/Assessor sessions, some being face-to-face in the workplace, and some being over Teams calls.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 9-4 (A*-C))
  • Mathematics (grade 9-4 (A*-C))
