Summary

We are seeking a motivated and practical Vineyard Apprentice to join our established team. This is a hands-on role with significant tractor operation responsibilities and increasing involvement in vineyard machinery maintenance. This is a genuine career entry & development opportunity within professional viticulture.

£14,722.50 to £23,809.50, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Day to day tasks will vary, but will include: 

Tractor & Machinery Operation (Primary Focus)

  • Operate vineyard tractors safely and efficiently
  • Spraying (in line with organic standards), mowing, undervine cultivation and trimming
  • Support harvest logistics and vineyard transport
  • Maintain accurate spray and machinery records
  • Uphold health, safety and environmental compliance

Vineyard Operations

  • Winter pruning and tying down
  • Canopy management and crop thinning
  • Vineyard monitoring and record keeping
  • Harvest operations
  • Supporting sustainable vineyard practices
  • All hands-on and tractor mounted operations required to maintain the vines

Equipment Maintenance & Responsibility

  • Assist with servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Take increasing responsibility for routine machinery checks
  • Maintain service logs and maintenance schedules
  • Identify wear, faults and mechanical issues early
  • Ensure machinery cleanliness and safe storage

Training schedule

  • The apprentice will be taught in-person at Plumpton College via block release
  • This will be one week (five days) every two months during term time

Requirements

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
