What you'll do at work
We are seeking motivated and professional individuals to join our busy teams. If you are looking for a varied role and the opportunity to progress after a successful first year, then this could be the Apprenticeship for you. This apprenticeship is customer-facing and you will be primarily responsible for the administrative work needed to support the creation and sustainment of successful tenancies.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Customer Service: Be able to apply a range of customer service skills in order to provide a professional, accurate, timely, ethical and non-judgemental front line service which meets the needs of a diverse range of customers and stakeholders.
- Respond to vulnerability: Uses appropriate levels of skill and judgment to understand the needs of vulnerable individuals and groups (including those with complex needs) and respond accordingly.
- Communication: Demonstrate effective and appropriate communication skills to enable timely identification and resolution of issues. Be able to signpost customers who need additional support to other colleagues, partner agencies.
- Administration: Be able to apply a range of administrative skills in order to support a range of housing and property related services.
- Information collection and sharing: Understand and be able to use a variety of methods to collect and present information such as resident, neighbourhood and property data in an effective manner. Information and data must be collected, recorded and presented accurately.
- Team work: Work with internal colleagues and external partners to achieve individual, team and business targets. Work with colleagues to identify solutions to problems, appreciate the importance of team working and where they fit within the team.
- Time management: Organise and plan work in a flexible manner to ensure tasks are prioritised and completed within agreed timescales.
- Tools and equipment: Effective use of IT equipment and software, including housing and property management software. The appropriate use of housing and property related work equipment.
- Decision making: Effective decision making in order to ensure work tasks are completed in line with instruction and on time.
Training schedule
Duties will include:
- To actively participate in an organised programme of training leading towards the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification
- Working within Derby Homes front-line housing services to carry out a range of housing, administrative and customer-focused activities
- Dealing with all housing enquiries
- Contributing to effective provision of front-line services, both in a call centre and face-to-face environment; providing the first line of enquiry on Derby Homes services
- Listen attentively to customer requirements, asking pertinent questions to establish facts in order to gain a full understanding of the customer's needs
- Understand and be able to use a variety of methods to collect and present information, such as resident, neighbourhood and property data in an effective manner
- Maintaining accurate customer records using computer systems
- Record keeping and system updating
- Making and receiving telephone calls
- Dealing with confidential information
- Helping with the organisation of meetings and events and filing
- The role will also involve listening to customers' requirements

About this employer
Derby Homes was created in 2002 to manage and maintain the Council's housing stock. The function of management and maintenance is delegated to Derby Homes, but the Council retains ownership of the housing stock, and all tenants are Council tenants. Our turnover is around £67M a year and we have over 600 staff. Our core business is the management of and investment in, Derby City Council's social housing stock, comprising of 12,136 rented properties and 60 shared ownership.

After this apprenticeship
After a successful performance over the first year, there is the potential to be offered a further apprenticeship to progress to Level 3. There is no guarantee of a permanent position at the end of the apprenticeship; however, opportunities and vacancies will arise which apprentices can apply for.
