Summary

Foundation apprenticeships are introductory courses that help young people get started in an industry. You do not need to have any specific qualifications or experience to apply.

Anyone between 16 and 21 can start a foundation apprenticeship.

If you're between 22 and 24, you can start if you:

  • have an EHC plan
  • are in care or have been in care
  • are in prison or have been in prison

Health & Care support assistants working in a range of health and care stings (ie) care/nursing homes, hospital, GP’s, part of the community teams, residential support, learning disabilities.  The broad purpose is to provide high quality and compassionate care and support the individuals. 

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Daily role will vary dependant on the workplace:

  • Work in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Communicate and share information using verbal. On-verbal, written and digital methods
  • Complete own work tasks and ask for help when required
  • Work with colleagues to contribute to team outcomes
  • Help keep individuals safe and come to no harm
  • Follow infection prevention and control precautions to protect yourself and others in the workplace
  • Use digital systems and technology
  • Apply basic food hygiene and preparation methods
  • Move and handle equipment or other items safely and assist individuals
  • Develop personal resilience
  • Apply new learning and feedback to everyday practice
  • Overcome challenges and adapt to changes to work
