Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Carry out second-fix installation of automated gates, barriers, bollards, and roller garage doors, including wiring, mounting components, testing, and commissioning.
  • Assist with first-fix works where required, including groundworks, cable pulling, and motor box installation.
  • Install and commission intercom and access control systems
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and installation drawings
  • Complete all job documentation accurately, both digital and paper-based.
  • Observe all health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Manage your own time on jobs to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Communicate job progress with the operations team.
  • Share best practices and knowledge with other team members
  • Support senior engineers with additional tasks as your skills and confidence develop.

Training schedule

Training will take place at Gloucestershire College, Cheltenham Campus, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham, GL51 7SJ. For the first two years, the apprentice will attend college two days per week, with the remaining three days spent working on site with PAC. After year two, training moves fully into the workplace, with assessments and observations carried out on site.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

  • A full UK driving licence is preferred, as the role involves travelling to client sites across Gloucestershire. Candidates with a provisional licence will be considered if they are actively learning to drive.

  • A genuine interest in engineering, mechanics, or working with your hands.
