Summary

We’re looking for a motivated and driven Finance Apprentice to join our team at Chess. Wage

£14,722.50 to £23,809.50, depending on your age

Monday to Friday , between the hours of 9.00am and 5.30pm. The working hours includes your study sessions with your tutor.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Daily processing of cashbook transactions into Sage 200
  • Accurate allocation of payments and receipts
  • Daily bank reconciliations
  • Scanning and distribution of post
  • Invoicing customers
  • Support with the Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger activities
  • Assisting with a variety of queries and resolving ledger discrepancies
  • General accounts duties
  • Support and contribute to weekly team meetings
  • Personal 121 coaching with experienced accounts coach every 6 weeks via MS Teams
  • Access to your own personal Academy online learning portal

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

  • To accommodate regular office days at our Alderley Edge hub, the successful candidate should be based in or around Cheshire or Greater Manchester
  • Personal 121 coaching with experienced accounts coach every 6 weeks via MS Teams 
  • Access to your own personal Academy online learning portal
  • Graded certificate in the Level 2 Accounts Apprenticeship 
  • Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting 

More training information

  • Programme Structure (Level 2 Apprenticeship - 11 to 13 Months)
  • Level 2 programme lasting 11 - 13 months (unless the learner already holds an Accounts A‑Level)
  • Months 1–8: Core learning phase
  • Months 8 - 11: End Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Months 10 - 13: Awaiting final results
  • Achievement of both AAT Level 2 and the Level 2 Accounts Apprenticeship
  • Learners should be in post for 10–12 weeks before starting the course to build confidence and rapport with their manager
  • Line manager to attend a review meeting every 3 months

  • Maths & English GCSE Grade C/4 or above
  • Ability to go into Manchester for exams
  • Must be aged 16 years or above
