Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As a Chubb Apprentice Engineer, you will:
- Shadow and assist experienced engineers on customer sites helping service CCTV, intruder security alarms and access control systems
- Learn how to test these systems, diagnose and fix faults and complete accurate reports and documentation to industry standards
- Covered travel / accommodation to Blackburn Training 2000 for one week every 8 weeks for your apprenticeship training, combining classroom learning with hands-on experience in the field

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
- Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
- Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
- Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
- Carries out risk assessments.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
- Plan and install systems cabling.
- Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
- Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Training schedule
- An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation
- While on this apprenticeship, you will work towards a Level 3 Fire Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship
- The training will consist of week-long modules covering theory and practical classroom training, manufacturer systems training, and real-world experience shadowing Chubb engineers in the field
- Be prepared to attend local college on day-release or stay away as required on weekly block-release – residential training, as delivered by our Apprenticeship training partners

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Any Other Subject (grade 4)
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)

Other requirements
- Manchester (OL9) is where you'll be located, with expectations to travel the surrounding areas of the North West with an experienced Engineer
- It is desirable to have a full UK driving licence or a clear plan to obtain one in line with role requirements but not essential
- Comfortable and competent working in confined spaces and at heights, following all relevant safety procedures and risk assessments
- Great customer-facing skills, with a friendly and professional manner
- Genuine eagerness to learn, listen to feedback and develop new skills
